What? An Order?Posted: April 12, 2011
“Many of us exclaimed, “What an order! I can’t go through with it.” Do not be discouraged. No one among us has been able to maintain anything like perfect adherence to these principles. We are not saints. The point is, that we are willing to grow along spiritual lines. The principles we have set down are guides to progress. We claim spiritual progress rather than spiritual perfection.”
AA Big Book
Perfection wow what an order!!
Ya for sure only the angels can achieve anything close to perfection.
There are certain kinds of perfection. Like when your world is upside down and it looks like all hope is gone, we are in such despair and at the end of our rope, yet we dangle on the threshold of truth and knowledge, because it just can’t get any worse and we are closer to life because it feels as if it is slipping away. Or we get a disease and think it is all over for us. Or realize we are drunks and should stop drinking and we think our lives are over that we will have no more fun or it is to hard to even try because we have failed so many times before. Or some one dies and leaves your life, but you get to see what life is all about from the loss. Or two souls meet and even though it looks impossible or crazy, the world means for them to be together, the imperfection of the strife makes it beautiful. Or a physical imperfection can be so beautifully perfect.
Such beautiful perfect scars tell our stories.
This is why one step at a time one day at a time or one minute at a time helps us realize it all doesn’t have to happen today and for sure it doesn’t have to perfect.
Progress Not perfection.
