Every day we are sober is a gift we give ourselves. Sometimes it may feel like it’s all for nothing, that life kicks our butts and it would be better to just go get fucked up or die, but truly if you stay sober or just wait a bit around and go through the feelings and what seems to be the end of the world, it will change.
The line in the serenity prayer, “The courage to change the things I can,” and having the wisdom to know what we have power over, can make things go smoother.
We don’t have to accept every thing that is dished out to us. We don’t have to sit around and wait for happiness. We have our voices and our strength and spirit and we can work for our rights and speak out and change things, but the main thing is, we are sober and that is the gift.
Nothing is worth taking a drink or drug…
